Eric Lauer music – a blend of alternative, Southern, blues, and rock – is my newest obsession.

The smooth baritone busker belts out brooding tunes of love, loss, life, and drinking in his new self-titled album released in July.

Lauer, originally from Cozad, Nebraska, hit the Texas music scene in Houston, with the Dead Man's Ransom band.

The group has since disbanded; Eric is now a one-man band, armed with hollow body guitars, a Vox AC-30, two vocal mics, a tambourine, and a kick drum.

There's something savagely wild about Lauer's blues-laden tunes. It's haunting, arresting from the first note, holding you captive until long after the last note resonates.

This singer songwriter's music is filled with personal themes, fueled by life experience.

Lauer began playing at 11, when he got a hold of a cheap $100 guitar. Growing up in the 90s, his influences include grunge bands, classic country, and rock musicians from the 1960s and 1970s.

No venue is too big, and no bar too small, for this eclectic one-man jam: dive bars, lounges, private party's, and micro brewery's. He's also performed in concert halls and shared the stage with national acts such as Lincoln Durham, The Steel Woods, The Temperance Movement, Pegi Young, Crobot, Molly Hatchet & LA Guns, and Palestine's Blacktop Mojo.

You can check out Eric Lauer on his website http://ericlauermusic.com/music/ and purchase his music on Amazon and iTunes.

His official CD release show is booked for Aug. 24, at The Hideway on Dunvale in Houston.
